The early part of the week brought us light winds and gorgeous weather. A strong westerly storm began Wednesday night and continued for 24 hours pummeling the island with 50mph winds making birding very tough. By Friday the storm had cleared and the weather settled into light west/southwest winds through the weekend.

A pair of TUFTED DUCKS were found on Webster Lake on the 13-14th. Three drake Mallrds were found on Pumphouse Lake on the 12th. A single Common Goldeneye female was seen on Webster Lake on the 13th. A breeding plumaged YELLOW-BILLED LOON has spent the week off Webster seawatch. A Pacific Loon was seen on the 9th & a pair of COMMON LOONS were seen on the 10th off Tonki Point. LANDBIRDS & PASSERINES

More excitement came this week with the discovery of a female COMMON ROSEFINCH on Hutchinson Hill on the 13th. This bird was flighty but did perch up occasionally giving all satisfactory looks. The RUFOUS-TAILED ROBIN discovered on the 8th continued on the 9th giving a new group of birders quality views at this exciting find. A GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH found on the 13th at Polovina Hill on the 13th was a surprise. Small groups of Bank Swallows were seen all week.
